Trip to Velankanni
Its been long since we really wanted to visit velankanni church. After we bought our new swift we decided we will plan a trip to velankanni. We planned the trip over the weekend of 23rd and 24th of Jan so that if we take on day leave on 25th and we will get time to rest as 26th Jan is public holiday.
We decided to book a driver so that the trip will not be hectic for us.We choose to call up easydrive for the driver, since one of our friends suggested they are really good in this. The charges for the driver was reasonable .For a 9-6 drive they will charge 550 Rs.We planned to start early in the morning at 4.00 am and so we had to pay extra of 100 rs.We don't have to pay anything extra for the food and accomodation for the driver.
Starting early in the morning ,has a benefit that there will be very less traffic and we will be able to cover a considerable distance in that time. We decided to follow the Hosur->Selam->Namakkal->Trichy->Tanjavoor->Velankanni route .
We stay in bennarghetta road and so we usually take nice road to reach electronic city. But then our driver suggested that the new elevated highway from silkboard to elctronic city is open and lets take that route.
This was our first drive on the elevated highway and the road standard is awsome.I have snap of the elevated hughway early in the morning ..no proper lighting. So excuse me for the picture quality.
We were heading at almost 120 km/hour.
The distance from Electronic city to Selam is almost 160 plus kilometers. and we could cover that distance in almost 2 hours. We reached Selam, our first major point at 6.30 in the morning. The roads are really really good on this route and night drive is also fast as there are small plants in the median which stops lights of vehicles coming from otherside.
Well I tried to capture sunrise from the moving car and the result is not that bad.Our next destination was Namakkal. From Selam you need to follow the directions for Trichy. If you are used to driving to Kerala, there is a junction after salem where you take right to go to Coimbatore. We should go straight in this junction to go to Trichy. I tried to capture a snap of the signboard there. But I got only a blurred snap.So I am not putting it here. Our Next destination was Namakkal. To reach Namakkal we have to take a right turn from the main high way. There are signboards indication directions to Namakkal.
We reached Namakkal at 7.30 a.m and we were hungry as we started early in the morning. We decided to stop at Namakkal and have breakfast. But most of the hotels were closed at that time.We could only find one hotel.Though the name board said High class hotel,I really wonder what highclass meant,in this case.We had masala dosa. I doubt the masala was a bit stale. After having that I was feeling like puking. Though our driver was driving kind of OK,sitting in the back seat was not at all comfortable while he drove. He was not applying break properly at humps .Also the road condition from Namakkal was not at all good as compared to the highways. There were lot of pits in between patches and it was just a double road without any median in between. We thought tamil Nadu was not so green a place.

Total distance covered was 500Kms.We didnt book any hotel in advance as we thought its best to go and book is the best option.First we checked at Hotel MGM which had real nice facilities. The rate was a bit high for a one night stay.So we finally decided to stay at Hotel Picnic where the rate was around 1200 per ac room.We were really hungry ,so we didnt look for different other hotel options. The rooms were not so clean. We decided to adjust for the one night stay.Thought this hotel had a mallu restaurent ,we felt it was not clean at all.So we went to Hotel Seagate to have lunch. Here also cleanliness was not there. But since we were hungry we ate from there.
After lunch we decided to go straight to church. When we reached there we saw that the front door of teh church was closed. We were little disappointed to see this.We saw lot of people and we went to the other side of the church and we saw that it was open.We wanted to "vjerippu" our car. So we went to security office and found out that this can be done at 4.00pm in the evening. So we decided spend time in the church till 4.We went inside the church and wanted to sit some time and pray.It was really sad to see people littering the church floor ,not even thinking a moment that this is a church. After sometime we decided to we came out thought will go and see the chappels adjacent to the church. It was almost 3 in the evening was really hot at that time.
We went and sat under a tree there and decided that we will visit the chappels after the sun is a little less rude.It will be a very good idea to carry a cap.You can also buy cap from the beach side shops. At 4 we took a slip from the security to bring the car in for venjerippu.A priest came and did the car venjerippu. We were really happy that we could do that.
After that we saw a small building -a meauseum near to the church. We just went inside that and some paintings and artworks on Jesus Christ. When we captured those ,it came out really nice in the snaps.
We enquired about the timing for malayalam service and we came to know that the malayalam service is only at 9 in the morning. After 5 we went to the chappel opposite to main church. This is where th holy tank of The Lady is located. Its a walk of almost 1.5 km.After coming back from the chappel we went to the main Church which was open for the Tamil Mass.By the time we came out from the church, we were really tiered. Still we thought we will just go to the beach and come back.It was already dark .
This place was totally washed off in the Tsunami.I saw really long candles hanging in some of the shops. We could find some good chains and all created with shells there. We couldn't see the beach at all , because it was totally dark there.
We went back to hotel, had dinner and slept off.We started at 4.00 am next day morning .On the way back there was a diversion where there was no board and were all woken up from sleep by big jerk. Luckily nothing happened. We reached namakkal at around 8.30 or so and had breakfast from a nice hotel this time
On the way back we stopped at sunflower farm and it was really nice as this was the first time we saw a sunflower farm.We were back at home by 12 in the noon.Overall it was nice trip.

Normal????
i rarely feel like writing to the blog.. but today this is the 2nd... i decicded to pen this down as and when it happened....
I feel like writing only when i couldn't express some thing rt away and it cribs my mind...its been long in my mind but didn't get time actually to scribble it out here...
As i said in previous post we went to native 2 weeks back...this particular incident happened when we returned Bangalore. We always love to travel in train..well we can't afford to travel in flight every time....
We started the journey quite calmly.. there were just 2 more persons in the compartment when we started from the first station..He was lying on the seat with his head on my lap as he was a bit tiered after the hectic weekend...and everything was calm and quite except for the monotonous rhyme of the train....
I love taking snaps with my cybershot gifted by my brother..so i took snaps through the train window.. well thats different view...
We spent about 2 hrs and we were about to reach another major station...
Since no one else had come to our cabin we knew people are going to board in this station.. So he woke up.. and sat on one side and i also sat along with him so that others who are gonna board here will have enough space to accommodate themselves...
Well from now whatever happened was annoyingly fast and then after that annoyingly slow to make our journey so unpleasant...
We both were sitting so glued together and it should not be a problem for atleast 8 persons to sit together NORMALLY... well that is important "normally".. there are some who are abnormal.....
ok.. after all beating around lets get into what happened....
the train stopped at the station.. there were so many rushing into our cabin well i didn't get time to see who all are they or how many are they....
One person .. i would like to call him a.. what.. a Barberian...or Mr B in short.
well i can expand that name like this B-Barbarian,A-Arrogant,R-Rude,...etc as in the popular ad...
Mr B entered with his family lined behind him....Let me describe Mr B, was an old well built man of probably 60 or so..looks exactly like a retired government officer.. he had all the rudeness accumulated in his face itself....Rudeness accumulated over 30-40 years of government service .. i say this because i have seen that kind of rudeness only in government service retired who in the major part of life did monotonous and very boring job in minimal salary....well i don't mean all govt: officers are like that.. i know very nice people also...
Mr B spoke to us only in typical mallu accented English and in loud voice .. loud enough that the whole compartment can hear it...
first of all he came and asked me to stand as where i am sitting is his seat and he wants to sit there...i was sitting near to the window.. so we thought he wanted to sit in the window side.. but the other side window seat was vacant..but still i thought ok. and i stood up...and there was very little space for me to move as Mr B's whole family was lined up there...ok then i thought i will sit in the other side....but when i look at the other side seat Mr B has already kept a bag there...So I asked very politely.. this bag??.. just that much i didn't even complete my question and he started shouting at me .. i think i went deaf by his loud voice..
well my hubby had already lost his patience with rude way Mr B asked me to get up from the seat and by the whole rush his family made there....On top of that Mr B is shouting to me..Still being good mannered person he didn't tell MR B any thing.. He just asked me to sit there ..Then Mr B started shouting like anything and his son also joined shouting at both of us.. The started behaving to us like railway police or so... They started shouting..."To sit in seat you should have tickets .. these are reserved and these are our seats.. people without tickets should not come and sit here"...
I wanted bang in there eras"hey u guys are not railway police.. we too have taken tickets in this reserved compartment.. there 8 berths in this cabin and only 4 are yours.. Better stop now or i will make you stand on thorns"... but that was just in my mind.. years of good nature i have practiced will never allow me to shout like they do....My hubby tried to make them understand we too have reserved seats and asked them whats their problem.. he will never shout like them.. i guess no good mannered person can shout like them....hmmm....
Mr and Junior MR B kept on shouting to us...They then made us shift our bags from where it was kept....Well there more space than required for them.. Still they wanted to keep their bags exactly under their seat number.. hey comon yar.. we had actually kept our bags to one side so that others who come can conveniently place their bags....
in between this shouting they started establishing they have more experience in train travel than any of us and started teaching us the meaning of courtesy... MR B says in loud loud noise that you will become deaf(I cant explain in words how rudely Mr spoke to us):"We are not traveling in train for the fist time..We know whats courtesy in train is all about"..
I really wanted answer Mr B on this but silence rules me.. he is teaching train travel experience to a person who has spent his whole lifetime away form native home.. As a kid my hubby used to travel 3 days to reach native every time in train..he did his studies also away from home.. and now work is also away from native ...and all through this time he used to travel in train only..Well i think that is good amount of experience in train travel....
and for matter of courtesy.. i don't think making a women stand in between too many people and not allowing her to sit is courtesy...
Is barking at us who always remained calm is courtesy??..
Is shouting at people who were ready to adjust with you courtesy???
.. hey i a m confused i don't get the meaning of courtesy.....:(
well all this happened in a span of 5 mins..After all this we said we don't want to argue with you people.....shame on you Mr. B.After all this we realized other people were looking at us with sympathy and i could easily read from their faces the discomfort caused by the whole shouting episode.. i think they were also seeing a person like Mr B and junior Mr B for the first time....hmmm that was all over...
but you know my mind over it again and again...We were really humiliated...
I wanted to do some nasty thing in return for what ever they did to us...but i know finally silence rules over it....
i kept on whispering my ideas to my hubby.. i don't exactly remember all those ideas...now actually those ideas sounds funny...but my thoughts were like that of little kid...
1.we will take a photo of Mr B and Junior Mr B and circulate a mail saying "Beware of Mr.B on trains".. just like saying "Beware of Dogs" hoping that mail will reach them on one day and they will realize their fault...I even planned to to get the actual names of MR B and Junior Mr B from the list posted at the entry of the compartment..
2.I wanted to write an article on some leading news paper on this so that they read it...
3.I wanted to put a blog post with their photoes and finally let them know how badly they behaved to us ...
4.I wanted to attach some nasty sticker on his shirt with out he knowing it and let others laugh reading it....
5.Middle birth was mine so we will make it staright so that Mr. B cannnot sit and enjoy any more(once we make middle birth straight Mr B cannnot enjoy the outside view..
6.I wanted throw some thing on their face to throw out all my anger ....
some more were there.. but i don't remember those......
But finally Silence Rules...But it still cribs my mind...that y i couldnt stop writing it out here...
Thank you Mr B for making our train journey so unpleasant....
I believe if I hurt someone else then someone will hurt me also...
This applies to Mr Barberian also....

just a flash back
we went to native 2 weeks back.. just for 2 days after a hectic schedule trip to noida....
we reached on saturday morning and the same day itself we went to my home... on the way home when we reached near my good old college my heart started pumping fast.. i just wanted go there and see and come back.... it was saturday and i was pretty sure there wont be anyone out there.. but still the nostalgia started pushing ...and i told lets go in there and we will just drive in and come out and no need to step out as we had hectic schedule ahead even at native....it was agreed upon....
as we took the turn and started toward the college i could see more people than expected in a saturday in that area....I thought it could be exam time and thats y guys are hanging around in hostels...As we reached near the college gate i could see a large number of vehicles and....the board of Sanskriti... (I am not sure that was the name or not... )..Well it was such a pleasure to see that board..I was so lucky to reach the college on the final day of the intercollegiate arts fest that happened after 4-5 dry years...Thanks to the new principle of mace for bringing back the life in our college.....Thanks a million....This the way it should be...Thanks for being so good to us to reinstate the arts fest which was banned by our previous dictator princi.. I tell u ..i don't have any thing in person against our previous princi.. but to be realistic u took away the life from our college..Professional college studies is not all about studies... it's about becoming professional also.. Being able to interact and organize... being able to handle situations... not only about academics.. please never ever think professional course is all about academics.. i know cant tell this in any community u have got ur own set of moderate their to censor this.. but sir fact is fact.. i wanted to tell this from long time.... if i continue on this i will have thousand lines to write....
Kudos to all those who co-ordinated it this event.. i could see each and every one out there really enjoyed it ...Well i loved and enjoyed short amount of time i was there....It was nice being there with most people not recognizing me..I remembered all those face who had a small smile for me ... but now there was nobody who actually recognized me.....hmmm.. that was not that true.. a very few of them stared at me as if they have seen me somewhere.. i really wanted to tell them...hey u dont have to think too much, i was here just like you, just 3 years back.... :).. I wanted see just the few teachers to whom i really have respect.. but could not see them.. that was a small disappointement ... but still the day was great....
